Getting there and transfers

By train: Mariazell Railway

The Mariazell Railway, a narrow-gauge railway, runs several times a day from Mariazell to St. Pölten. The one-way trip takes approximately 2.5 hours. The train route runs through the impressive landscapes of the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park and the Pielachtal Valley. www.mariazellerbahn.at

By bus: "Mariazeller Autobus"

Bus line 169 is also known as the "Mariazeller Autobus" and runs 1-2 times a day between Vienna Central Station (bus station Südtiroler Platz) and Mariazell. The bus line runs directly along the Via Sacra, which means you can use it to shorten or skip certain stages of the hike. Click here for the detailed route timetable (Search for "169")!
